Master of Professional Accounting
Overview
The Master of Professional Accounting equips you with the technical skills and professional competencies to critically evaluate a range of accounting and business issues, for effective business decision making.
The course provides a pathway to a career in professional accounting for students with an undergraduate degree in business/commerce or for students who have completed sufficient business/commerce breadth subjects during their undergraduate degree.

How you will benefit
The Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is certified by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. After completion of the MPA program, graduates are eligible to apply for Associate Membership and are then required to complete a further three years of practical experience combined with further study of between 5 or 6 units of study (with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia or the CPA Australia respectively) to fulfill membership requirements.
On successful completion of this program, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate competencies, professional skills and knowledge in relation to contemporary accounting issues and practices
- Demonstrate skill in knowledge bases, economics, management, finance, auditing and business information system
- Critically analyse and think strategically in relation to accounting and business analysis issues
- Apply analytical skills to address issues such as financial mathematics, finance concepts and asset pricing
- Explain the role of cost information in organisations and key financial business processes underpinning organisational activities
- Analyse contemporary accounting issues within the framework of agency theory, capital markets theory, human judgement theory and the economic perspective of the taxpayer
- Analyse the impact of aspects of the law on accounting practice.
Minimum entry requirements
One-year of documented work and/or professional experience and either:
- Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in business/commerce or equivalent OR
- Successful completion of sufficient business/commerce breadth subjects as part of a non-Commerce New Generation degree.
Additional requirements:
- A minimum score of 550 in the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
- A personal statement

Exit points
Students who are either unable or choose not to continue with their studies may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting if they have successfully completed any eight subjects.
